Mimbres
The Mimbres Valley is located in southwestern New Mexico, about seventy miles from Arizona and seventy miles from Mexico. The area is most famous for the pottery designs of the Mimbres Indians that inhabited the area about one thousand years ago. Our elevation runs between five and six thousand feet above sea level. Cook's Peak (in the banner photo) is 8400 feet. Surrounding mountains that contribute runoff to the Mimbres River stand at over ten thousand feet. The area is called high desert. Nights are cool, even in the summer, days are usually warm, even in the winter. Rainfall averages about fifteen inches per year, and most days are at least partly sunny.
